How to stay cool without air conditioning?

There are several ways you can relax with no artificial cooling/air conditioning. Heat can promote fun summer activities, but it should not be excessive for too long since too much heat may damage the brain and other body systems. So with your health in mind, let's take a look at some cool ways to cool down.

Hang out on your patio with a Misting Kit

If you've been to a festival or any outdoor events during the summer, you've probably heard or seen these misting tents. Well take that idea and bring it home with one of these misting kits from amazon. This kit we've purchased is very versatile and you are able to install it in many places. We currently have it hanging from our patio-covered roof beam, spraying a nice mist around us while we lounge on our deck.

I plan to buy more lines and have some zones setup so I can have this line run along the perimeter of our concrete deck in the future.

USB Powered Portable Fans

We have bought 3 of these USB powered portable fans and I just love them. We have 2 in the trailer for our boys to help circulate the air when we are camping in the summer, and one in that can we quickly use and move around from place to place. We've even taken them to the park with us to hang in the little day tent for a picnic. They are quiet, have a little light which is useful for ambient lighting, and a hanger on the back of them so you can always find a place to hang it up from.

Get Cold Air Circulating in Your Apartment or House

If you live in an apartment that unfortunately doesn't allow air conditioning units, or they are simply out of your budget (who has 400 bucks lying around to spend more on electricity bills?!), here is a great tip we learned last year during the Heat Dome of 2021 (cue the dun-dun-duuunnnnnn sound effect)

  1. First you'll need a fan and Rubbermaid tote, and a little preparation from the day before.

  2. Make ice, lots of ice

  3. Dump the ice into the Rubbermaid tote

  4. Place the fan by of the tote, essentially blowing the air from the fan, over the ice, and pointed towards your room

  5. Keep an eye on the ice level, and keep topping up as necessary
